Open thread: Wizards (13-37) vs. Bucks (20-30)

By Michael Lee

The Wizards will only dress 10 players, but they might be down to just nine healthy bodies with Rashard Lewis developing some stiffness in his right knee. Yi Jianlian and Al Thornton are both out and Coach Flip Saunders said Lewis would be limited. Lewis complained about soreness in his knees after the Wizards (13-37) played five consecutive back-to-back sets. "We'll have him, but we'll have to wait and see how effective he'll be and to what extent we'll be able to use him because of the stiffness." Saunders added that the Wizards plan on re-signing Mustafa Shakur to another 10-day contract when his right ankle and knee heal.

Tipoff: 7 p.m.; TV: CSN; Radio: 106.7 FM. Check out a live box score from tonight's game here.

No Al, Howard, Yi, and just a very limited Shard but IDK. All I want to see is us play hard for 1 game. Weve stopped doing that. Dray has to be a difference maker. He's just out there on the court. It started making me sick when Gil started doing that and now Dray is the same way. You are getting paid alot of money. You cant just cruise through games. Dont you have any passion or self pride? No one respects your game like that. Even your stats mean nothing. Its just stats because someone has to get them on a team but they mean nothing.

I want to see that effort back that he played with like 10 games ago. Him & McGee have regressed so much recently but atleast Javale is starting to pick it up. Dray has to do the same. Sometimes he's getting doubled but he's still not playing hard. He only plays hard when he gets called out publicly right now. I wouldnt say that its all his fault because I think sometimes a coach can bring the team moral down and they quit on him but Dray recently said that Flip is not the problem and is a good coach so then you have to step it up, case closed. Win or lose, I just want to see some kind of passion & intesity from these guys.

If not then Flip should bench them for guys like Kirk, Booker, Seraphin, Nidaye, and so on. That goes for Wall too. I dont think it was a conicedence that we played a spurt in our last game better then we had in the last 10 games and that was when Wall & Dray were on the bench. Stop cruising. I hate watching it. Dray's getting doubled some which is throwing him off but still.

Same with NY. He's playing hard but is starting to play dumb again. Get closer, either to the rim or closer jumpers. Dont keep settling for long fadaways and learn how to pass to make yourself open. I think he's getting tired though. He's playing way way way more minutes then he's accustomed to, Flip always leaves him in a few min to long, and he has to run non stop off screens which he's never done his whole life. Flip should cut back on some of that stuff.

Let's see, looks like Vegas has Milwaukee giving a point. Not bad given how many Wiz are off-line. Nick Young is listed as questionable. For the Bucks, Drew Gooden is listed as out. Milwaukee is considered the better defensive club.

If they play, this will be Andray Blatche's 364th game and 145th start in a Wizards uniform; Nick Young's 281st (57 starts), and Javale's 183rd game, 77 starts. Congrats, guys.

Flip having Javale go right at Bogut, been waiting all season for that, let's hope it works

Trade Blatche & Lewis for any expirings and/or future picks.

Re-sign Nick Young, Yi, Armstrong, & possibly Thornton, Martin, N'diaye & Shakur.

GET A STARTING CENTER... M.GASOL OR BOGUT ARE MY TOP CHOICES.

Draft Terrance Jones.

Move Mcgee to PF, Booker to SF.

Not much to criticize tonight, huh? For any Wiz fan it's hard not to wait for the other shoe to drop, but so far, so good.

Is it me or does Andray look like he is bored playing out there. He is playing well. The Bucks are playing kind of sloppy in the 3rd quarter. They should play to win and not to lose so they can feel good with closing them out.

THAT'S 15 ERNIE, THERE YOU GO. IT'S A SIMPLE PLAN, CAN YOU DO IT!???

When's the last time we saw Washington go 10 for 16 on threes? Cartier Martin the major culprit. It's nice to be hot. This is McGee's best game in memory, an echo of his earlier streak. Maybe reading about his slump on WaPo inspired him...

Brandon Jennings looks like a shadow of himself. He's coming off an injury but 9 for 24?

Anyway, a lot of fun.

Posted by: Samson151 | February 9, 2011 9:47 PM | Report abuse

There's a lot to like about this game. They came out strong in the second half, Lewis was kept under 30 minutes, and Kirk was pulled in the 4th after poor play(It looked like Jennings got in his head or at least under his skin). And then there was Javale. He gets bonus points for taking shots away from AB. Nice to see Cartier Martin do well, too.

THAT WOULD BE A TEAM YOU CAN BUILD ON. THAT WOULD PUT US ON A PATH LIKE OKC. MR ERNIE GRUNFELD CAN YOU DO IT!???

Nick Young & Booker have become my favorite 2 players on this team. Love Nick's fro btw, looks great! Even more reason to go retro and return to Bullets next season!

Giving Javale a sizable portion of Dray's touches is the best move Flip has made all season (imo). Most games Mcgee has to defend the opposition Big but rarely gets to attack him on the other end...tonight he got to lay some fouls on the Bucks bigs. And less of a green light for Blatche is exactly what he needs right now.

Nice D tonight, but cant forget Bucks are a truly lousy offense

Just read on the NBA-TV scrawl that Collings makes a young Philadelphia Team relevant again.

I thought Jordon had wrecked that joint.

Interesting.

I apparently missed one of McGee's best Run and Jump games. 16 pts and 17 rebounds. Wow. He must have heard about the Love comparisons.

Was this a career night for Cartier Martin?

Posted by: PostSubscriber | February 9, 2011 11:35 PM | Report abuse

Is Flip trying to prove that he really can coach? They won by Fifthteen Points, 15 pts, thats something you are allowed to talk a little trash about.

What did Flip say after this one?

Martin has a pretty stoke and never seems to have a bad game when he actually plays. Hopefully Flip can start getting him in the rotation. Of course we will probably lose him when he signs with the Spurs next year and win a ring.

"Was this a career night for Cartier Martin?"

Nope.

He's had one this year with the Wizards where he scored more points. He had a handful of games with Golden State that matched up with this one statistically (one against the Knicks where he scored 16 in 22 minutes on 7 FG attempts). Still, he posted a great offensive stat line in the minutes that he played.

Someone must have talked to Javale about his pace because he was more in control. Instead of sprinting up and down the court at every opportunity, he took his time and it seemed beneficial as he seemed to have more endurance to hit the boards and offensively capable, interesting.

He kept talking about how we caught at the right time and jennings and Bogut aren't fully back yet. Not how the wiz played but how the bucks didn't. Gotta love Flip.
