Friday Quiz, Take 9

This quiz is brought to you by Steve Ingrassia, a teacher at Fairfax High who is always looking for new ways to engage his Algebra I class.

When I visited his class last week, I was a little surprised to see they were learning to solve systems of linear equations, something we had learned in Algebra II a couple months earlier. There's lots of repetition in these classes!

Here's a warm up exercise Ingrassia prepared for his class, inspired by the Sunday funny papers. In the comic, Paige solves the problem in her head. Ingrassia asks his students to find two different ways to solve the problem and explain how they work.

How would you solve this problem?

Have a good weekend!
